Our 3-step-treatment protocol for lifelong oral health

Quick fixes have never been the aim at INSTITUT DR. HUEMER, we rather strive to make sure our patients have healthy teeth and gums for life! In order to achieve this goal we at INSTITUT DR. HUEMER follow a treatment protocol comprising three steps.

Step 1: Prevention

Professional tooth cleaning, for which normally two appointments at a one-week interval are necessary, involves the use of various instruments or devices to loosen and remove soft deposits (plaque) as well as hard ones (tartar, calculus, or stains) from your teeth, the areas between the teeth, and from gum pockets, if present. The dental hygienist will also explain to you the causes of the commonest oral diseases such as caries, gingivitis and periodontitis, and will tell you what you can do to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Measures to prevent oral disease include healthy food, proper brushing technique, and fluoride application.

The dental hygienist also offers extra services such as treating sensitive tooth necks, polishing tooth fillings, vital bleaching of stained teeth, performing caries risk tests and microbial examinations.

Step 2: Restoration

The second step is aimed at restoring your oral and dental health and preserving as much natural tooth substance as possible. This can be achieved by either placing high-quality fillings (composite restorations using the Vanini technique or inlays), performing microscopic root canal treatment, prosthodontic treatment such as crowns, bridges, and veneers or implant-supported crowns, bridges or dentures (e.g. Minifive®) following implant surgery.

Step 3: Maintenance (Recall)

Our goal is to help our patients keep their teeth and gums healthy for life.

Regular professional tooth cleaning and dental check-ups combined with good oral hygiene at home can prevent tooth decay, gum disease and pain and can also save you the money you would otherwise have to spend on tooth replacements.

Professional tooth cleaning is performed during recall appointments on a two- to twelve-month basis. A dental check-up is recommended at least once a year.
